The Rise festival in Croydon, billed as London’s largest urban street art festival, is underway. Artbleat dropped in on the organisers a few days ago to find out what they had planned for one of London's up and coming art hubs. Working with the local council Rise Gallery (hence the festival name) have invited a selection of street artists from far and wide to add their designs and thoughts to the large concrete buildings and boarded up shop fronts, with the aim to both brighten the area and provoke some meaningful conversation on the subject of street art.

Alongside the continuous flow of artists at work there are events and workshops happening on a daily basis, film screenings, guided tours of the artworks and a pop-up shop selling affordable one-off works by some of the participating artists.

Should you want to wander around unguided there is also an map based app that you can download from your app store of choice, just search for RISEfestival.

You can view all the events HERE

Some of the art will be on permanent display, some may only last a short while but it's well worth taking the quick train ride from Victoria to see the work of so many skilled street artists spread across such a short distance.

The festival runs until the 15th September but there will still be artists adding to the streets for the foreseeable future, just not in such large numbers, until the next festival in 2019 hopefully.
